Reckoned as one of the most scenic treks in India, the Bedni Bugyal Trek is a breathtaking journey through one of India’s most picturesque alpine meadows. Situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Bedni Bugyal is renowned for its vast grasslands, surrounding snow-capped Himalayan peaks, and biodiversity. The trail offers surreal vistas of Mt. Trishul(7,120 m) and Nanda Ghunti (6,309 m), which make it a dream trekking destination for many.

Bedni Bugyal Trekking Route and Experience

The Bedni Bugyal trek begins from Lohajung (2,313 m). From here, trekkers embark on a moderate 6 km trek to Didna Village (2,450 m), passing through thick oak and rhododendron forests. The next stretch leads to Ali Bugyal (3,400 m), one of India's largest and most beautiful meadows, where rolling green hills and wide-open landscapes create a magical trekking experience.

From Ali Bugyal, the trail ascends towards Bedni Bugyal (3,354 m), a mesmerising high-altitude meadow. Spanning over miles of lush greenery, Bedni Bugyal is known for its blooming wildflowers, sacred Bedni Kund, and breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayan ranges. The snow-clad peaks of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti create an enchanting backdrop, making this one of the most picturesque spots in Uttarakhand. Trekkers can spend 2-3 hours exploring the meadow, soaking in the tranquillity, and capturing stunning photographs before descending back to Wan village.

The trail is rich in biodiversity, with trekkers spotting rare Himalayan flowers like Brahma Kamal, blue poppies, and cobra lilies. One may also encounter the Himalayan monal (state bird of Uttarakhand), musk deer, and foxes along the way.

Best Time to Do Bedni Bugyal Trek

The best time to trek to Bedni Bugyal is from May to June and September to November, when the meadows are lush green and the skies are clear, offering breathtaking mountain views. During winter (December to February), the region is covered in snow, providing a thrilling experience for snow trekkers.

Itinerary

Drive to Haridwar. Upon arrival at Haridwar check in to hotel. In the evening visit Har Ki Peri for Aarti ceremony. Back to hotel for overnight stay.

In the morning after breakfast drive to Mundoli (240 km/8-9 hrs) via Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Karnprayag. Arrival at Mundoli by evening. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

In the morning drive 10 kms to Wan, which is the road head for the trek. Today we will trek 11 km (5-6 hrs) to reach Bedni Bugyal, probably one of the best camping sites in the GarhwalHimalayas. Dinner and overnight stay in tents. Bedni Bugyal is a charming green meadow adorned with flowers in a spell binding varieties, in full bloom. There is a small lake situated in the midst of the meadow, where Tarpans are offered by the devotees. Situated nearby is a small temple where the devotees pay there obeisance, during their halt at Bedni Bugyal.

Today we will trek up to another Bugyal, Ali Bugyal(3300 mts).After exploring the area trek back to Bedni for dinner and overnight stay.

Retrace your steps towards Wan. This will take 3-4 hrs. Dinner and overnight in tents.

After an early breakfast drive to Rishikesh. Lunch enroute. Arrival at Rishikesh by evening. Upon arrival check into hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast depart for Haridwar to catch same train at 10:30 hrs to reach Delhi. Arrival at Delhi by 14:30 hrs.
