Trekking Route: Munsiyari – Lilam – Bogudiar – Rilkot – Ghangar - Panchu Glacier - Nanda Devi Base Camp – Martoli - Rargari
The Nanda Devi East Base Camp trek starts from Munsiyari (2290 m), which stands as a hamlet known for its spectacular sights of the Panchachuli Peaks. After starting from Munsiyari trekkers traverse 7 kms into Lilam (1850 m) while navigating through the dense forest areas and rocking streams. The trail extends another 12 kms to Bogudiar (2609 m) where the Gori Ganga River accompanies trekkers during their journey.
Moving 12 km to reach Rilkot (3130 m), you'll notice a drastic change in the scenery as the lush green areas give way to rocky mountain landscapes. Next up is Ghangar(3300 m), 13 km from Rilkot, a peaceful meadow with lofty snow-clad mountains all around. From there, trekkers trek 7 kms to Panchu Glacier (4000 m) where they get a full view of the impressive Nanda Devi East (7434 m), locally known as Sunanda Devi. This sight leaves many people amazed. The last part is a 10 km climb to Nanda Devi Base Camp (5400 m). This spot brings you as close as you can get to this famous mountain. Standing here surrounded by the Greater Himalayas, feels almost unreal.
Trekkers pass through Martoli Village (3350 m) which sits 17 kms from Nanda Devi Base East Camp while following the return trail. The 20 km descent from Rargari leads trekkers to witness the breathtaking scenery one final time before they return to Munsiyari.
