Launched on 26th January, 1982 for the promotion of the Rajasthan tourism, this train is the oldest name in the luxury train category of Indian railways. The inspiration of the design of the train comes from the former princely states of Rajputs, namely Jaipur, Bikaner, Alwar, Bundi, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Kota, Sirohi, Dholpur, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Kishangarh and Dungargarh. The interiors of all the fourteen coaches are designed as per the royal liking of yesteryears of these above mentioned states. The restaurants, also known as Maharaja and Maharani, serve excellent Indian as well as continental food.
The single package of this Indian luxury train covers Agra, Ranakpur, Jaipur, Mandhawa, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Agra in duration of 14 days.
Due to its popularity in the segment of luxury travel, the train has been awarded PATA Gold Award in the time of 5 years, and after its re-launch in its newest avatar, the train became the 4th most luxurious train of the world.
