Gangotri Gaumukh Trek also known Sources of Ganges Trek, is one of the pilgrimage treks situated in the Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand, India in the Garhwal Himalayas. This trek is exciting and strenuous leads to the depths of the Indian Himalayas, where the Holy River Ganges (Bhagirathi River) originated and allows you to wander through the lush green meadows, thick forests, harsh rocks, and impressive glaciers. The trekker is led right upto the face of the Gangotri glacier and one gets to see the river as it originates from the glacier. The views are breathtaking from here and the glacier coupled with other mountain ranges is right above you.
The Gaumukh Trekis a challenging trek and therefore it is recommended that everyone planning on undertaking the trek must be in good physical health and condition. The distance covered in the whole trek is around 40 KM on foot and after splitting up it is covered in 3 days and your journey will be begin from the Gangotri. The weather includes mountains, sharp incline and decline slopes, rough ground, and ice in some regions due to high altitudes.
